Should I get Hair Extensions for my Wedding Day?

So you're in the process of thinking about how you might want your hair to look on your wedding day. I’m sure the first place you’ve started looking for ideas is Pinterest or Instagram images, scrolling for inspiration and hairstyles that you feel might suit you.

Let me stop you just now and say 90% of the beautiful hair images you see online have some kind of extra help in the hair department. Whether it be padding or hair extensions.

What is padding?

Padding is a tool that is mostly used if you chose to have an up-do. It is usually a doughnut shape that is pinned into your hair to give the appearance of more hair. All of the images you see below have padding. At your trial, once I understand what style you are after, I will be able to determine whether padding is required or not. I will then apply the padding and ask that you keep it safe to re-use on your wedding day.

I come armed to every wedding with lots of padding so if you have any guests who are having their hair done that you feel may benefit from this added extra, I provide this as a complimentary add-on.

What are hair extensions?

The hair extensions I use are always real human hair. You can purchase these in a variety of colours and lengths. If you are keen to have extensions for your wedding day only, your best option is 'clip ins'. These are lengths of hair that have a small clip which is applied to the root of your hair. They add instant length and volume. They can be washed, blowdried and heat styled the same as the hair on your head. They are used

You can also pay for professional extensions to be applied, these last anywhere from 4-8 weeks and there are a variety of types on the market, if you want more information on this, please get in touch.

Do I need hair extensions?

First things first, take an honest look at your own hair and the sort of styles you are hoping to achieve on your wedding day.

Are you being realistic with the amount of hair you have? Do you want more length?

Hair extensions might be the right choice for you if you feel you want a thicker and/or a longer hairstyle but that’s not the only benefit to having hair extensions.

Hair extensions also act as a sort of scaffolding for the hair. Especially if you opt for your hair down or partly down, they really help the style to last. This is because hair extensions hold styles much longer than your natural hair.

Coming from my personal experience, I have lived with alopecia areata for 15 years. I have worn all different kinds of extensions, I have worn padding, I’ve even worn wigs. This is a judgement free zone when it comes to your hair. I know just how much your hair can affect confidence, so if you are currently feeling like you won't be able to achieve the style you want because of your natural hair, I want to let you know - that's not the case!

If you are looking for a show stopping hairstyle then I would highly recommend hair extensions.

Real Life Brides

I wanted to show you the comparison photos of two brides I have worked with. On the left are photos from their trials, this is where we discussed the style they wanted and agreed that hair extensions would be a great addition to their style. On the right you can see photos from their wedding day. Subtle changes that make a big difference.

I want hair extensions for my wedding day.

If you're looking for extra volume, length and long lasting style, I would always recommend hair extensions. If you are sold on the idea, please bear in mind that your hairstyle may take a little longer than the usual 1 hour set aside for bridal hair. This is all detail that can be discussed with me prior to your wedding day.

If you are sure you want hair extensions on your wedding day, please get in touch as soon as possible. I always try my best to get extensions in hand for trials but this isn't always possible as I don't carry every single shade. I have a shade matching ring at my studio so that hair extensions can be ordered post trial.

I work with Milk & Blush hair extensions.

You have the choice to hire them from me and return after your wedding or keep them.

If you choose to hire, I ask that you pay for the extensions and once they are safely returned in good condition I offer a partial refund.

It is helpful to have them for your trial but it isn't necessary.

If you want any more information on how to proceed with hair extensions, please get in touch.

I can't wait to work with you to create your dream wedding hair!
